| Me with view of Sarajevo |
But lets start at the beginning!
Ever since I can remember, I want to go to Afrika. As a little child I already decorated my room´s walls with pictures of children from all over the world and every year I wished for a large calendar. On this calendar african kids had to be pictured on, so I was able to connect myself with this dream from me. Therefore I was certain about going to work in Afrika as part of an voluntary service after my graduation from school.
So by searching via the funding program Weltwärts I came across the NGO Kinderhilfe Westafrika e.V., which sends young people in the age from 18 to 28 years to West Africa and is based in Mohlsdorf. Weltwärts is orientated on development policy and funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), which finances most of my stay and enables it.
Together with another volunteer, Anna-Lena, I will live with a priest´s family in the small town named Gwollu. Gwollu is located in the Upper West Region of Ghana close to the border of Burkina Faso and its native language is, alongside the official language English, Sassal.
Presumably our work will be done in collaboration with the workers of a primary school and a kindergarten, so we will teach the children, teach them their official language, help with spare time activities, play with the children ... more specific things I can only report after the 9th September 2014 , because this is the date of my departure.
To be continued.
